Job Description

The corn and soybean entomology laboratory in the Department of Entomology are looking to hire undergraduate students who are interested in gaining summer work experience related to entomology, corn and soybean insects, applied ecology, and integrated pest management (IPM). 

Responsibilities
Field Tasks

• Conducting statewide farm survey for soil insect pests
• Sampling soil for pesticide contamination
• Collecting data on insects and plants for research on corn and soybean fields, insecticide resistance, field scouting and insect sampling, and other topics. 

Laboratory Work

• Maintaining plants and insect colonies
• Experiments in laboratory and greenhouse settings
• Data entry

• Interest in biology ecology, entomology, agronomy, or environmental science
• 18 years of age or older
• Not enrolled at the UMN
• Ability to work outside in agricultural fields throughout the day in various weather conditions
• Valid Driverâ™s License
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Comfortability with insects and field conditions
• Experience with soil insects and field works is preferred but not required.
