General Requirements:
Master's degree in related field, project, or grant. Broad and extensive administrative experience in basic and applied research techniques or as needed by grant or project. Wide knowledge and skill in applying principles and practices of management, in applying principles and practices in basic and applied research and in related field of operations. A minimum of five years directing a major state or federal grant or program and previous work experience in forensic science or in related field. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Plans, administers, and directs activities within the Institute for Forensic Research, Training, and Innovation ( IFRTI ).
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Leads, develops, implements, and monitors activities within the Institute for Forensic Research, Training and Innovation ( IFRTI ). Forecasts, assesses, and prepares fiscal matters related to institute activities. Prepares and implements budgets. Creates brochures and training materials. Develops multimedia visual aids and presentations. Creates testing and evaluation processes. Develops reports on activities and outcomes for internal and external review. Evaluates needs of IFRTI and plans programs accordingly. Conducts performance evaluations. Provides constituents with in-person and online trainings, facilitates research activities, and coordinated academic-industrial partnerships involving faculty, staff and students. Provides performance feedback. Builds solid cross-functional relationships. Plans the implementation and facilitation of activities and events, budget spending, material production and distribution, and other resources to ensure that operations are managed within authorized budgets. Assists with the development of strategic plans. Conducts presentations to promote programs. Provides scheduling, customer support, trainings, and event functions of IFRTI . Travels to facilitate training programs and attend conferences, trainings, and other events on behalf of IFRTI and Sam Houston State University ( SHSU ). Oversees activities related to IFRTI programs that support training and research. Works collaboratively with state-wide and campus-wide constituents. Works closely with the College of Criminal Justice to expand professional development and high-impact learning opportunities for the forensic and criminal justice communities. Produces and directs content of social media outlets and IFRTI web site. Creates and implements training programs to meet licensing requirements and applicable standards at the state and national level. Sets performance metrics, evaluates productivity, and develops staff. Provides support and supervision of staff and students assigned to IFRTI . Performs other related duties as assigned.
