Be a Leader in Education Reform! We're seeking a dynamic individual with a background in state government affairs or policy development to transform the K-12 education landscape for computer science. We've already made significant progress in changing policies across all 50 states, and this is your chance to build on that momentum and create lasting change.
What You'll Do:
Your primary focus will be building and maintaining relationships with key state leaders, including departments of education, boards of education, legislators, and governors. You'll develop and execute strategies to advance policies that break down barriers and increase access to K-12 computer science courses.
Develop and lead state-based campaigns and coalitions.
Develop and update policy positions.
Represent our organization publicly at events, including testifying before state authorities and speaking with the media.
Communicate our policy agenda to diverse audiences (stakeholders, legislators, educators, media, etc.), tailoring your message for each group.
Build relationships with universities that are training K-12 computer science teachers.
Organize and lead policy-related events with policymakers and partner organizations.
Develop and maintain relationships with the computer science community, including educators, leaders, and partner organizations.
Build and manage grassroots support for policy initiatives.
Coordinate state policy efforts internally and with partners.
What You'll Bring:
Your main experience should be working directly with legislators, governors' education advisors, state boards of education, and/or state departments of education. You should have a solid understanding of the legislative or policy development process within state education systems. As a non-partisan organization, you'll need to be able to work effectively with representatives from all political parties.
A passion for our mission.
Bachelor's degree (required); Master's degree (desired).
Experience developing or implementing state-level policy.
Experience influencing or passing legislation at the state level.
Ability and willingness to travel (up to 30%).
5-8+ years of experience in government relations, advocacy, or policy development in education (preferably at the state level) (preferred).
Expertise in or knowledge of computer science or technology education (preferred).
Background in lobbying, legislative staff work, and/or executive branch experience (preferred).
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (required).
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check (required).
Willingness to travel a minimum of two times per year for team events (required).
What We Offer:
Competitive Salary: $97,000 - $108,000 (offers typically start on the lower end of the range, at the company's discretion).
