Position Summary

Campus Recreation provides quality recreational and educational experiences designed to positively impact the development of Elon students and contribute to the wellness of the campus community. The assistant director is an essential member of the Campus Recreation professional team and provides daily management of sport programs, including club sports and intramural sports.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in recreation, sport management, health, physical education, or related field with the following experience: Completed bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of post-bachelor's experience required. Completed master's degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field and 1-2 years of experience (including graduate assistantships/apprenticeships) in collegiate recreation or a related functional area in higher education strongly preferred

Valid driver's license required for on-call responsibilities and some other events/activities. Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid required. Instructor certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid preferred.

Master's degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field

Job Duties

  • Club Sports Management: Oversee the administration of all club sports organizations, including participation clearance, budgets, scheduling of practices/contests, leadership development, fundraising, hazing prevention/intervention, and other club sports and student organization policies and procedures. Supervise and evaluate approximately 15 club sports student employees. Mentor and advise officers and leaders of 25-30 club sports with more than 1,000 participants. Advise the Club Sports Council. Facilitate the Club Sports Leadership Academy, an annual leadership development program for club sports officers. Develop and implement policies, processes, and trainings for club sports coaches.
  • Intramural Sports and Outdoor Facilities Management: Develop, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive intramural sports program that includes team sports, tournaments, and individual/dual sports. Manage the daily operations and scheduling of recreation fields and outdoor basketball and volleyball courts. Supervise and evaluate approximately 25 intramural sports student employees
  • Department and Recreation Programs Administration and Advocacy: Actively participate in all Campus Recreation staff meetings. Assist in the development and management of program budgets. Assist in teaching CPR/AED/First Aid classes for Campus Recreation student employees. Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in all programs and facilities. Foster positive relationships on and off campus to promote Campus Recreation and the HealthEU wellness initiative.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Support departmental strategic planning, goal setting, priority completion, evaluation and assessment, and data-driven decision making. Support university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, Commencement, Family Weekend, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation. Serve as a member of a Student Life Care and Response Team, which includes either serving in a rotational on-call emergency response role or providing initial outreach and follow-up support for student concerns. Serve on university, divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and search committees. Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Recreation.
